Java: Swing GUIs
I highly recommend using a Java IDE that allows you to create Swing GUI’s via a drag-and-drop interface, it is a lot less hassle!
It doesn’t really matter which tool you use: Netbeans (the IDE released by Oracle), Jetbrains IntelliJ, or the open source Eclipse. Pick one, and search for the YouTube tutorials that will get you up and running. Philosophically I would like to like Eclipse because of it being open source, but I’ve always had issues when I’ve tried to use it. Practically the Jetbrains IntelliJ seems to work smoothly and is the same product that Android Studio is built on, but it is over 1 GB in size. Netbeans I haven’t tried in over 10 years so I can’t speak to it’s current state.
